9:30-10:15 Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency MEMA’s role in a disaster
Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency will present on what role MEMA plays in a disaster response. Regional MEMA reps work closely with local emergency managers to support development of emergency management plans, including mitigation, preparedness, planning, response, recovery, and training activities and will discuss MEMA’s role in disasters and preparedness.
10:30am-12:00pm Emerging infectious disease – EDS Training- Dr Henry Vaillancourt
Dr. V will be discussing “Emerging and Re-emerging Viral Diseases: What You Need to Know and Fear”, would cover Influenza viruses: what they are; how they change (and the implications for pandemics); Avian & Swine flu (current epidemics and geographic areas of concern); a brief review of MERS, SARS and why they still need watching; a brief update on Ebola ( and where it’s heading); and a few words on some viruses of concern- Monkeypox, and Dengue.

1:00-2:00pm The effect of Opiate use in our communities and NARCAN Training
Mary Wheeler from Healthy Streets in Lynn will discuss The effect of Opiate use in our communities and demonstrate how to administer NARCAN.
2:45-3:15 MRC’s response to the Merrimack Valley Gas Explosions presented by Liisa Jackson Medical Reserve Corps Coordinator/Director
Liisa will be presenting on the MRCs response to the Merrimack Valley’s Gas Explosions caused by excessive pressure in natural gas lines caused explosions and fires, with over 80 individual fires that triggered a 10 Alarm Fire.
30,000 were evacuated from their homes in Andover, North Andover and Lawrence.
The Medical Reserve Corps was activated and through strong MRC partnerships the people affected by the explosions that needed to be sheltered during the evacuations, provided staffing for MEMA’s Resource Recovery Centers, provided Behavioral Health support to those effected by the event and for response staff.
