Emergency Management

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) mission is to provide Massachusetts residents and visitors emergency preparedness resources, emergency alerts, and information during and after emergencies and disasters. MEMA coordinates with federal, state and local government agencies, non-profits and businesses to prepare, respond and recover from emergencies and disasters.

There are four MEMA regions in Massachusetts. While the regions do no directly correspond to the hospital preparedness/HMCC regions, there is significant overlap.  See Figure 2 for a map of MEMA regions.  Region 3 HMCC is located in MEMA Region 1 (Northeast). The MEMA Region 1 EOC is located at Tewksbury State Hospital in Tewksbury.

In addition to MEMA regional offices, there are 49 municipalities in Region 3, with corresponding local emergency management directors (EMDs).  These local EMDs are invited to stakeholder meetings by the regional MEMA representative.
