This position will require the Planning & Operation Coordinator to work with all the defined disciplines to create, exercise and maintain a regional coordination plan working with limited supervision and be able to work independently. The Town of Needham is seeking a full-time public health nurse.
The public health nurse is based at the Center at the Heights in Needham, 300 Hillside Ave., and reports to the Director of the Health & Human Services Department. This is an essential position within the Public Health Division and the larger Health & Human Services Department which performs a variety of nursing, policy, and health education functions.
The full-time public health nurse works with a part-time public health nurse and with a pool of on-call and per diem nurses. Duties include the development and delivery of screening programs and wellness clinics, and communicable disease investigation, surveillance, and case management activities. The public health nurse researches public health and medical studies as well as evidence-based practices to inform the development of Needham Public Health policies and Board of Health regulations, and educates and informs the community about a broad range of health topics including general wellness, safety from mosquito and tick-borne illnesses, and mental health promotion. He/she will direct the Town’s Medical Reserve Corps, will manage local and federal fuel assistance programs, and will collaborate extensively with the Town’s social workers, school nurses, the Building Commissioner, and personnel from the Town’s public safety agencies. The public health nurse sits on the Town’s Local Emergency Planning Community and is a critical member of the Community Crisis Intervention Team.
